VG10 Damascus Steel
Our VG10 blade is developed combining modern steel with the techniques of traditional Japanese knife crafting for the ultimate in beauty and performance. The blade is made with VG-10, one of the highest quality types of steel used in knife production, which retains an excellent level of sharpness that is easy to maintain. Clad with 16 layers on either side of stainless Damascus, where the steels meet a wavy line called a Hamon is formed -- similar to the line formed when Samurai swords are tempered using a clay-baking technique. VG10 is a top of the line steel to use when performance and durability are essential.
What is in VG10 Damascus steel?
IRON - primary element of steel
CARBON - the most important element for hardening, and for strength
MANGANESE - grain structure of the steel, hardening and wear resistance
MOLYBDENUM - prevents brittleness and maintains the steel’s strength at high temperatures
COBALT - for hardness and corrosion resistance
CHROMIUM - important for corrosion resistance. Steel having 11.5% to 13% chromium is considered stainless
VANADIUM - essential for giving the blade its ability to harden. Also for wear resistance and toughness of the blade, as well as the ability to take a very sharp edge.
